An archive of over 4000 photographs from the wartime era when the North West was a busy training & maintenance area, including a large number of personnel collections of memorabilia.

Histories of the airfields in the North West and aircraft crash sites are extensively covered. The museum specialises in the Dominion, Polish & Czech aircrews who served in the RAF.

We have several aero engines on display including RR Merlin, Kestrel, Avon & Griffon. Bristol Hercules, Junkers Jumo, and more.

Also many of the items on display have been recovered by excavating wreck sites including a display relating to the C4 "Time Team" dig that was carried out on two A-26 Invaders

There are a number of airframes and cockpits on display at the museum including Vampires, Tornado, Whirlwind and Fleas

We have a Home Front display complete with Anderson Shelter.

The Museum also houses the National Collection of the Mountain Rescue Survive

The museum also houses a large military collection with a special emphasis on the Cold Stream Guards, this also includes a collection of wartime firearms.

An extensive WW1 display is soon planned for the museum.

The Museum also operates in partnership with the Lancashire Aircraft Investigation Team, South Lancashire Aviation Research and Peak District Air Accident Research, the collections of these groups is now displayed at the Museum.

There are currently five buildings plus outside display areas housing the collection, each one packed with displays.
